Hinduism

Is it monotheistis, polytheistic, or monistic?

There is no simple answer to the question of whether Hinduism is monotheistic, polytheistic,or monistic. The term “Hinduism” embraces a wide array of philosophies and practices, and while certain Hindus may think and worship in an essentially monotheistic way, the practices of others may be considered polytheistic. The conception of God and gods in the Upanishads is that the many different “gods” are in fact just the One God. This one God is also known as the Absolute or Brahman. Each seemingly separate god is, therefore, a different manifestation or quality of the One God. One thing that makes it more difficult to answer the question of what Hinduism is considered is the fact that Hindus are not as concerned as western thinkers with these labels and categories. A saying that contributes to this is a favorite Hindu saying "The Truth is One, but different sages call it by different names."

Two other relevent quotes are "Hinduism worships multiple forms of the one God." and "According to the tenets of Hinduism, God is one as well as many."With this being said, I think Hindus don't believe in clasification. I think they know that the world, and especially the supreme are more complicated than what can be put into words.
