I believe it is philisophically possible and theologically possible for one to be a social activist and also reach enlightenment. But, being a social activist does not gurantee one's enlightenment. If enlightenment is connected to spirituality, then enlightenment is connected to the spirit and the soul. Religion goes beyond the physical and what lies outside of the individual. If one is truly and wholeheartedly good they will not be deniedenlightenment. Karma clearly states that every action has a reaction for me; however it doesn't deny one to read between the lines. If a man is driving with care and a foced mind, and collides with a drunk driver who dies on imact, the clear concience of the first man shall not be tarnished. Just because someone is involved with a tragedt doesn't mean it is he who brought it on. Bad things happen to those who don't deserve it. A baby that dies at birth did nothing to bring this on. Ghandi just wanted to righta wrong. Ghandi saw an unjust world and simply did what no one else would to make it just again. Ghandi never intended nor instructed for violence so he is without guilt or fault for the tragedies that occured. Thousands were injured or killed because they believed what Ghandi believed. But to say it was Ghandi's fault and not then men who called the orders or shot the guns is outrageuos. Ghandi wanted a greater good not a greater amount of people dead.
